How Long Is the Digital SAT?
By the Cheetah Prep team
The digital SAT is 2 hours and 14 minutes of testing, plus a 10 minute break, so the actual work is about two and a quarter hours. That is roughly 45 minutes shorter than the old paper SAT. Here is where the time goes.
| Part | Time | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and WritingModule 1 | 32 min | 27 |
| Reading and WritingModule 2 | 32 min | 27 |
| Break | 10 min | — |
| MathModule 1 | 35 min | 22 |
| MathModule 2 | 35 min | 22 |
| Total testing time | 2h 14m | 98 |
Testing time excludes the 10 minute break, so the full appointment runs about 2 hours 24 minutes before check in.
The Timing, Module by Module
Reading and Writing runs 64 minutes, split into two 32 minute modules of 27 questions each. That is about 71 seconds per question. Then comes the 10 minute break. Math runs 70 minutes, split into two 35 minute modules of 22 questions each, which is about 95 seconds per question.
The break is the only pause. Within a module you can move freely between questions, but once a module ends you cannot go back to it, and the timer for each module is separate. Plan your pace by the module, not the whole section.
Why It Feels Different From Paper
The digital SAT gives you more time per question than the paper test did, even though it is shorter overall, because it asks fewer questions. That extra breathing room is real, but it does not make the test easy. The questions are still designed to be missed if you rush, so the time is there to be used, not banked.
